New NAR Requirement: Fair Housing Education Now Mandatory for All REALTORS® (2025)

The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) has implemented a new Fair Housing education requirement to further emphasize the importance off air housing practices in our industry. All REALTORS® must complete a minimum of 2 hours of Fair Housing education within each 3-year cycle, aligning with the same timeframe as the Code of Ethics training requirement. The current cycle runs from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2027. Additionally, new members are required to complete this education within 30 days of their application to ensure they start their real estate journey with a strong understanding of fair housing principles.

To meet this requirement, members may choose from a variety of courses that emphasize fair housing education. Eligible options include:

  • NAR’s Fairhaven     simulation
  • NAR’s At Home with     Diversity certification
  • NAR’s At Home with     Diversity (course only)
  • NAR’s Bias Override     training
  • Approved Fair Housing     courses offered by a local association
  • TREC Legal Update 1     (2025-2026)

These courses are designed to provide REALTORS® with practical tools, insights, and strategies to uphold fair housing practices and ensure equal opportunity for all clients.

Once you’ve completed an approved course, please send a copy of your completion certificate to academy@gfwar.org so we can update your membership record. This new requirement reflects NAR’s commitment to fostering a real estate industry that champions diversity, equity, and inclusion while ensuring that all REALTORS® are equipped to serve their clients ethically and fairly. We appreciate your dedication to meeting this standard and upholding the principles of fair housing in your business practices!
