FORT WORTH, TX – DECEMBER 3, 2024 – Texans are on the move with more people choosing to relocate within Texas than in any other state in 2023, solidifying the Lone Star State’s reputation as a land of opportunity and growth. According to the Fall 2024 Texas Relocation Report from Texas REALTORS®, more than 11% of the population of Texas moved from one place in the great state to another last year. That is the highest percentage of people in a U.S. state who moved inter-state.
“We’re proud to share the beauty of our state, there’s truly no place we’d rather call home,” said Blake Barry, 2024 President of the Greater Fort Worth Association of REALTORS®.
Not only is Texas popular among its current residents, but homebuyers from other states are also flocking here. California and Florida saw the most resident exchanges with Texas in 2023. Texas gained over 55,000 more residents from California than it lost, making it the top state people moved from. Florida ranked second, contributing a net gain of 13,000 people. Overall, Texas experienced a net increase of 133,000 residents last year, solidifying its status as a top relocation destination. In Fort Worth alone, over 9,000 homes have sold locally this year with nearly 19,000 home sales in all of Tarrant County. According to the U.S. Census, Fort Worth recently became the 12th most populous city in the United States, with a population nearing 1 million. In fact, its population grew faster than its larger Texas counterparts including Dallas, Houston, Austin and San Antonio. It is expected the city will reach 1 million in population by 2026. "Fort Worth truly has something for everyone, making it a highly desirable place to call home. The arts and nightlife scene, family-friendly activities, great dining, and a thriving downtown all make this city a perfect blend of culture, community, and opportunity," said Barry.
