City Council Lowers Property Tax Rate: A Win for Fort Worth Homeowners

On September 16, the Fort Worth City Council adopted a $3 billion budget that lowers the property tax rate while increasing certain city service fees.

The new rate of 67 cents per $100 of assessed value — down from 67.25 cents — is the lowest in more than three decades and will reduce the average homeowner’s tax bill by about $20 per year. At the same time, fees for services such as trash pickup, wastewater, and environmental protection will rise by an average of $56.88 annually. Taken together, the net cost to homeowners will be about $36.55 per year, or $3.05 per month.

The Greater Fort Worth Association of REALTORS® (GFWAR) applauds the City Council’s decision to lower the tax rate — a meaningful step toward easing the financial burden on homeowners and keeping Fort Worth attractive for families and businesses. This outcome follows years of consistent advocacy by GFWAR in support of a No-New-Revenue Tax Rate, underscoring our commitment to protecting property ownership and affordability in our community.

Importantly, the lower rate still allows the City to maintain essential services, striking a smart balance between fiscal responsibility and taxpayer relief.

We commend the City’s leadership and thank our REALTOR® members for their dedication to safeguarding homeownership and strengthening Fort Worth’s future.
